Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet was part of the Summer of Arcade and like all the other games it was great. The game had a great campaign with some fun puzzles and challenging boss battles. Lantern Run its multiplayer mode was also a great part of the game and now we have a co-op story mode in the new DLC Shadow Hunters.
Pros:
Animation: The animation of the DLC is still amazing and Gagne shows a small game can still look great yet again. The madness you can get into with a full team of space ships, your lanterns, and all the enemies is a great experience for your eyes.
Customization: In the story this time not only can you have all your friends and each of you can choose your color, you have the ability to choose different looking ships. I felt like this little addition to set yourself apart from your friends was a great addition to the game.
Simultaneous story and multiplayer: This DLC picks up right where the story left off. You find out that other planters have been infected with shadow and you take it as your mission to help clear them of the same thing that invaded your planet. You will be playing actual new campaign levels with your friends trying to take your bomb to the end to detonate it and destroy the shadow monsters. If you forget to protect it and it dies before you are at the end of the level you must start over. All of your tools you earned in the original game have been carried over so you start out strong and you are going to need them.
Cons:
Difficult to play alone: While one of the main pulls of this DLC is being able to play with co-op partners, sometimes you don’t have that option. There weren’t many people grouping up online so you had to have friends with the DLC or have friends over for couch co-op. It is possible to do by yourself but very hard and of course it is much more fun with friends. If there had been a scaled down version for those that didn’t have the chance to play with others it would have been great.
In Conclusion:
For the price of five dollars Shadow Hunters is a great addition to the Insanely Twisted Shadow Planet experience. If you can find the means to play it with friends, I would highly recommend it and I think that anyone who enjoyed the original game will also enjoy this DLC. We look forward to any more additions to the game or whatever is next from these great developers.
